On Evening stroll in Changua

On Sunday afternoons we usually take the bus from Homei to Changhua.
It's about a 15 minute ride, and the bus is never too crowded. Once there we usually check out the theatres first to see if anthing interesting is playing, and then we base our day around that. We check out bookstores, do lots of window shopping, explore the city. There is this one street in particular that is abour 4 blocks long, and the street probably has over 50 clothing stores...if not more, and tons and tons of street vendors...it's always very busy!!! One night the streets where closed off to traffic and big tents were set up, sort of like rows and rows of outdorrs exhibits. Some booths were of art, while others the latest trend, new health food, exotic spices, sandals that massage your feet, and many more. The one night we were there the big "thing" were these cool drinks (see picture #3 above). Not sure what was inside, but the drink was erved in these tall bright colorful glasses with straws and a constant stream of what looked like smoke or steam...(looked like exhaust on a cold winters day) flying outta the straw.

Another booth was selling fresh coconut juice/milk and coconuts, as well as our favorite...fresh squeezed orange juice. (see picture #2)

Picture #1 is Michelle holding up one of our favorite meals...the delicious crepes we have talked about in the past. The crepe is sweet and always warm, with bits of corn, tomatoes, cheese, chicken, ham, tuna, some other unknown objects, and then coated with this creamy sweet custard sauce. Sounds like a weird combo, but it tastes great!!

After that we sometimes head for a strawberry sundae, and then back to the bus station...we always make sure we are back by 10:30pm as that is the last bus to Homei. After that we would have to take a cab/taxi which would cost $200-250NT, whereas the bus is only $20NT each.

Connie, the other Canadian teacher asked us today if we would like to go white-water-rafting with her and her husband Alex sometime this summer. They have gone before and are excited to try it again. I have never gone, but I am totally up for it!!! Can't wait!

Jeff
