We broke the CODE!

Saturday, Michelle and I went to Yuanlin in the afternoon by train. Walked around and did a lot of window shopping. Having forgotten the business card to The Maple Leaf Bar & Grill...our 7:30pm destination to meet our fellow co-workers...we luckily managed to ask the right people and trust our instincts and found it...and arrived early too.
We talked with the owner for a while, he came to Taiwan to teach English, and now runs and cooks at his restaurant, and seems to love it!
Soon we were enjoying our nachos with salsa and sour cream---something we miss so much, we use to eat nachos at least once a week, they tasted great!
Connie and Alex were the next to arrive followed shortly by Mark and Karen...who are always late.
It was great to all hang out away from the school...and talk about non-school stuff. Enjoying drinks & eating great food....and some of our favorites....ceasar salad and french fries, beef & bacon burger and chicken sub...Michelle and I shared our food so we good have such a wider variety of all the Canadian foods that we miss! We hung out just the 6 of us upstairs in this restaurant all night til after midnight....obviously not a busy. We had a great time.
Sunday, May 21
Went to the market, still enjoying the fresh veggies and fruit all the time!
Met our friend Michelle Wang in Changhua around 3pm, hung out, walked around, went to Tea-Work, a cozy traditional yet trendy decorated restaurant.
Having just eaten a late lunch we just ordered drinks...I had a huge and delicious banana milkshake, Michelle had a cold Plum Tea, (Plum tea is good for the stomach and Michelle had a few too many drinks the night before, hehe)
and M. Wang had a mango slushie, that was also huge and tasted great.
Wang also ordered snacks...so we nibbled on some deep fried tofu, tempura, and some deep fried chicken. Wang just got laser eye surgery done last week, there are precautions, and hourly eye drops for 2 weeks, and googles to wear to keep out dust and particles, but after the 1st 2 weeks, then she said she'll be back to normal....only without glasses.
We then headed to the theatre a little earlier than usual to get our tickets.
It was a good thing we did, by the time we purchased our tickets only the first 3 rows were left. So we sat right near the front, but it was actually great, not to close at all. Karen and Mark joined us at the theatre...barely in time of course.
In Taiwan all the movie tickets are assigned, so unless it's really empty, you have to sit where your ticket says. LOTS of people do NOT turn off their cell phones off during movies here, it's unbelievably annoying and rude, even more so was Mark, who made such a stink about it complaining out loud to himself, that I was more annoyed with him than the phone call. AHHH!
We both enjoyed the book so much more, and the movie was quite different. But we still really enjoyed the movie version as well. Great to see all the historic buildings, art work, and the ideas of everything you created in your head while reading the book come to life on full screen.
As the credits were rolling, a Canadian couple approached us, they had met Mark briefly about 6 months ago, so we chatted, and exchanged numbers. They are only staying for another 2 months or so, but they wanna sell their scooter and had some household stuff....the idea is possoble of us taking over their rental agreement..who knows. They just seemed like really great people, so hopefully we've made some new friends, and we'll have more of a social life soon.
Hope everyone had a great long weekend back in Canada!
We get no such thing here...
Take Care
Jeff
